Avendale Secures £2 Million Façade Replacement & Remediation Project at Major UK Broadcasting Facility
Delivering a complex façade transformation within one of the UK's largest and most demanding live broadcasting environments.

Avendale secured a £2 million contract to deliver a major façade replacement and remediation programme at a major UK broadcasting facility, marking another significant project within its growing portfolio of complex commercial and infrastructure works.
The project involves extensive replacement, refurbishment and remediation of the building's external envelope, including façade panels, associated interfaces, localised repairs and specialist protective treatments.
With the facility remaining fully operational throughout the works, the project required a highly coordinated approach from the outset. The scale of the building, its operational requirements and the complexity of working around existing infrastructure presented a series of significant logistical and technical challenges.
A Bespoke Approach to Façade Remediation
Rather than simply replacing the existing façade wholesale, Avendale developed a targeted remediation strategy designed around the condition of the existing building. Areas requiring complete replacement were carefully identified, while suitable existing elements could be retained, repaired and protected.
This approach allowed the project team to combine:
- Extensive façade and cladding replacement
- Localised structural and substrate repairs
- Corrosion treatment
- Specialist protective coating systems
- Weatherproofing and façade interface improvements
- Refurbishment of retained façade elements
- New and upgraded fixing arrangements
The result is a carefully engineered solution that balances long-term durability, performance, programme and cost, ensuring the £2 million investment is directed towards the areas where it delivers the greatest value.
Working Around a Live Broadcasting Facility
The operational nature of the site has been one of the project's greatest challenges.
Unlike a conventional refurbishment, there was no option to simply close the building and carry out the works. Broadcasting operations continued while Avendale's teams worked across the external elevations.
This required detailed phasing of work areas, carefully managed deliveries and material movements, controlled access routes and close coordination with the facility's day-to-day operations.
Particular consideration was given to noise, vibration, dust, pedestrian movements and the protection of existing plant and infrastructure, with construction activities sequenced to minimise disruption.
Accessing a Complex Building
The scale and configuration of the facility also demanded a flexible approach to working at height.
Avendale deployed a combination of mast climbers, MEWPs, scaffold and rope access, selecting the most appropriate access solution for each elevation and phase of the programme.
Working at significant height while simultaneously managing an active operational environment required careful planning, experienced supervision and the ability to adapt the works as different areas of the façade were exposed.
Why Avendale?
The project required considerably more than a conventional cladding contractor.
Avendale was selected for its ability to bring together façade replacement, remediation, specialist coatings, complex access and large-scale project management within a single delivery team.
Its experience in technically demanding façade and remediation projects provided the client with the confidence that the works could be delivered within a complex live environment, while maintaining control of programme, quality and disruption.
